An eight-member Board of Health, appointed by the Cortland County Legislature in accordance with Public Health Law, oversees the activities of the Health Department, and County Health District, working to address community health needs throughout the County. Services are frequently carried out in collaboration with Community Partners. The Department as a whole is involved in activities such as the Community Health Assessment, Communicable Disease Surveillance and Control, and Health Emergency Preparedness and Health Promotion Activities. As a Department of County Government, the Health Department is supervised by the County Legislature, reporting to the Legislative Health Committee and to the County Administrator.
